Tuesday, January 25, 2005 (New Delhi):
Vicky Kapoor (Vikram) can be called India’s best-known martial arts exponent. He conducts kick-boxing classes at his personal studio in Delhi, but that’s just one of his many specialties.
Kapor has trained in karate, judo, aikido, taekwondo and kobudo (the art of Japanese weaponry), besides being a Black Belt in kick-boxing.
Over the last year, he has also started classes for Krav-Maga, an Israeli martial art form, which literally means ‘contact fighting’ in Hebrew.
Defence mechanism
It is the official system of self-defence and hand-to-hand combat of the Israeli defence forces.
The most convenient aspect of Krav-Maga is its street-smart moves. It’s a martial art which is now considered one of the most modern and practical ways of providing self-defence.
Those who have opted for this training technique…says its both useful and easy to learn.
“The drills are very easy to learn and are good cardio-vascular and fitness exercises, said Ashish Roy, one of Kapor’s students.
Kapor has taught this Israeli martial art to airline security staff, the CRPF, para commandoes and the special police forces. He now wants to take it to the Indian Army.
