Overview of IKMF Krav Maga in India

With increasing incidents of crime & sexual assaults against citizens in India, here’s a way to battle it out & have the upper hand. The Israel Defense Forces is known as one of the most well-prepared, technologically advanced military units on the planet. But it is the hands & feet of its soldiers – trained in the brutal, no-rules battle-tested art of Krav Maga: Hebrew for “contact combat”; that makes him/her a military’s most lethal & effective weapon. In 2004, Mr. Vicky Kapoor made history by bringing Krav Maga into India in partnership with International Krav Maga Federation (IKMF), Israel & now its growing popular in the sectors of Military & Special Forces, V.I.P. Protection Groups, Law Enforcement / Security Agencies, Civilian Fitness & Self Defense.

History: International Krav Maga Federation (IKMF), Israel

The founder of Krav Maga was Imi Lichtenfeld. In 1940, he started teaching self defense & combat techniques to Haganah Jewish militia members to fight armed German Nazi soldiers. After the formation of the Israeli govt., Imi became the chief instructor to the Israeli Defense Force. 20 years after his retirement, with Imi’s consent & support, the International Krav Maga Federation (IKMF) was founded in early 1996 by Eyal Yanilov, Gabi Noah, Avi Moyal, Eli Ben-Ami & several other. Now, the International Krav Maga Federation (IKMF) has grown to be the largest, most professional & well respected KM organization in the world. IKMF, Israel is the only organization listed in the catalogue of Sibat: Israel Ministry of Defense training & educating KM to all, in the fields of Defensive-Tactics, Unarmed Combat, Fighting Skills, CQB & Self-defense for: Military; Law-Enforcement, SWAT teams, Executive & Close Protection and Security Personnel. Educating & monitoring of in-house instructors. Mr. Vicky Kapoor is the Regional Director and Chief Instructor of the International Krav Maga Federation in India.

IKMF in India: Ultimate Tactical & Combat Pvt. Ltd.

From 2003, Mr. Vicky Kapoor successfully created a passion and respect for Krav Maga in India. In 2006, he was appointed as Chief Instructor and Regional Director of International Krav Maga Federation, India. He has recently become the only Indian to be awarded IKMF’s India’s Law Enforcement Instructor, S.W.A.T. Instructor, Military Instructor & Civilian Chief Instructor. Now he heads Ultimate Combat & Tactical Pvt. Ltd. as CEO & MD which trains & promotes Krav Maga in India. Vicky Kapoor: Director/Chief Instructor, Krav Maga India Vicky (Vickram) Kapoor, (born 1965) was introduced to Krav Maga in 2003. He began his training in Krav Maga in Israel under the tutelage of Mr. Eyal Yanilov (Head Instructor, IKMF), Mr. Gabi Noah & Mr. Amnon Darsa – intructors in IKMF. Before Krav Maga, he is also awarded 7th Dan by Karate-Do Fedr. of India & has also trained in Judo, Aikido, Boxing, Taekwondo etc., & is considered a legend by his students.

Who uses Krav Maga around the world?

Krav Maga is the official system of hand-to-hand combat and self-defense employed by the Israeli Defense and Security Forces, the Israeli National and Military Police and its Special Operations,  Anti-Terrorist Units, Special Forces Units, Sky Marshals, commercial airline crews, Israeli Police, and Internal Security Branches. In USA, its widely practised by

Hi Anand, Thanks for your comment. Yes, Krav Maga cost are costly than your average cost of traditional martial arts classes. One of the biggest reason is that Krav Maga classes gives you a concentration dose of tactics and combat solution from the very first hour. What you learn in real-time combat in the four months is equal to years of combat training in traditional martial arts. Hence, due to the quality of training provided, you are charged more. More ever, the trained pattern is in the same league as 25 armies around the world ranging from Israeli Military, US marines, SWAT, Anti-terror units etc. Brass and gold might look alike, but you only value gold more cause there is a cost factor attached to it. You are most welcome to come for one of our classes and experience the training for yourself :)

Hi Lalith, Thanks for your feedback. Yes, you never too old to learn Krav Maga. We have practitioners more than twice as old as you. :) Being over-weight is also not a problem. But you would have to be more careful in your training and food once you join Krav Maga. Ask for clear instructions from your instructor according to your level of ability to perform the drills and exercises of Krav Maga. Krav Maga makes no magic promises, its hard work and pure will power that would help you to reduce your weight. Lastly, call your instructor Mr. Sree Ram and convey your issue of timing to him, and I am sure he will adjust accordingly.

Hi, thanks for your comment. Yes, Krav Maga in India has come to Chennai now. Irrespective of your age and weight issues, you can do Krav Maga. Ofcourse, it would be a intensive workout and you would need to balance your food and workout accordingly and you will have to show a lot of will power as it would be tough in the first few weeks. Inform your Chennai Krav Maga Instructor about any specific point you feel he should know about your weight issue. Consult a good doctor before joining Krav Maga.

Hi, My concerns are the exact opposite…I’m going to the gym trying to gain weight, i’m 168 cm and weigh 52kgs. But I’m quite fit as I play sports (Cricket & Badminton) regularly. I’ve been advised by my trainer not to exert myself too much even in sports for the time being as i need a lot of rest to gain weight and to not burn a lot of calories in the process. But I want to take up Krav Maga badly as its been a long time dream to learn martial arts, especially KM. What is your advice Sir? Also do you intend to start saturday evening classes anytime soon? I have matches on sunday and might clash with the timings of the class.. Thanks you

Rs. 1500 for 4 classes looks too costly. I think more people would be interested to learn if the course were cheaper. Kindly consider. Thanks.

Dear Anand, Our aim is to give maximum quality training and still trying to charge a minimum amount possible. There is no point comparing Krav Maga classes charges to other tradational martial arts charges, as the quality and quanity of training provided in both are very different. Yes, reducing the charges might attract more clients, but it would severly undermine the training pattern as the quality of the training has to be same in every Krav maga center.
